Dross!
Americans universally pronounce solder with a silent L. I would venture to guess that most of those complaining about this pronunciation pronounce "car", "bar", and "far" as "cah", "bah", and "fah". When you think about how much more common than "solder" those and similar words ending in R are, you have little room for complaint.
Oh Yes, how right you are. This is a North American pronunciation thing. Even The Mythbusters say 'sodder'. Why is it so?
